Under the guidance of Dr. Chandra Shekhar Prasad from the Department of Dynamics and Vibrations at the Institute of Thermomechanics, CAS, a team of high school students from Technecium (Otevřená dílna a talentcentrum vědy a techniky), Pardubice, completed their diploma project in the field of aerospace engineering. The students designed, built and successfully tested a high-speed UAV powered by Pulsjet. The team also participated in the national finals of the 46th Science&Engineering High School Contest on 22-23 June 2024, where the students took 3rd place among 17 competitors in the category of Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Transportation. Dr. Prasad helped the students to understand the intricacies of aerodynamics of flight physics and the basic principles of aircraft design and propulsion. They delved into the nuances of numerical programming, using computational tools to simulate and analyse complex aerodynamic flows and aerostructures.
