The laboratory is a joint facility of the Institute of Thermomechanics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry of the CAS. Its goal is to collaboratively model physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere and other phenomena relevant to the environment.
Laboratory Heads:
Mgr. Hana Chaloupecká, Ph.D., Institute of Thermomechanics, CAS
Ing. Jan Suchánek, Ph.D., J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry, CAS
- Sensor and Sensor Network Development: Development of sensors and sensor networks for air quality monitoring and safety research, with validation in the semi-real environment of a wind tunnel.
- Mathematical Model Development and Validation: Creation and verification of advanced mathematical models of flow and dispersion of pollutants/toxic substances in the atmosphere using data obtained from spectroscopic measurements and experiments in a wind tunnel.
- Study of Complex Flow Processes: Application of a combined approach of spectroscopy and physical modeling to understand complex phenomena such as turbulence, the dispersion of chemical substances in the atmosphere (gases, aerosols), and gas-phase chemical reactions leading to the formation of new gases or their conversion into secondary aerosols.
- Research on Processes Influencing the Planet's Climate: Study of the formation and dispersion of greenhouse gases within natural and anthropogenic reservoirs, and research on the formation and dispersion of secondary aerosols in various types of terrain, including the study of the impact of urban green spaces.
- Transformation of Environmentally Relevant Chemical Substances: Study of the transformation of chemical substances relevant from an environmental perspective (e.g., within plumes from factory chimneys or terpenes from forest stands, which play an important role in the processes of secondary aerosol formation).
