Simulations of Viscoelastic Fluids Flows Using a Modified Log-Conformation Reformulation

O. Winter, T. Bodnár

Abstract:
The modiffed (non-singular) log-conformation reformulation proposed by Saramito [14] has been implemented in the finite-volume CFD toolbox OpenFOAM. An advantage of the possibility of using the modified reformulation over the original (singular) reformulation proposed by Fattal & Kupferman [7] at low Weissenberg numbers has been investigated. It was shown that in the case of regularized lid-driven cavity flow the original reformulation has a lower limit for the Weissenberg number. Below this limit the solution is unreliable. Such limit was not found for the modified (non-singular) reformulation. This allows to use this modified method also for the very low Weissenberg numbers (i.e. close to the Newtonian limit).
