Essential competencies:
- Programming skills: C++ (OpenFOAM), Python, Bash
- Experience in at least one of the following: (i) work with OpenFOAM and (ii) computational solid mechanics
- Adequate publication results
- Good knowledge of English to present and publish research results
Desired competencies:
- Ability to develop knowledge and skills and grow professionally
- Ability to conduct independent research in the field
- Knowledge of machine learning (ML) and data mining will be advantageous
- Knowledge of Czech is welcome but not required
The succesful candidate will:
The successful candidate will work on development of theoretical and numerical concepts for simulation of laser shock peening, that is, work in development of numerical codes based on the finite volume method for elasto-plastic shockwave propagation followed by elastic material relaxation. Furthermore, the applicant will be expected to cooperate with the HiLASE center of the Institute of Physics of the CAS on calibration and validation of the numerical simulations. Therefore, the applicant should be able to demonstrate a deep background in the relevant areas of solid mechanics, numerical mathematics, and programming. Proficiency in the finite volume method and OpenFOAM are substantial assets. The candidate must have excellent communication skills in English (oral and writing) and must be willing to work in an international team environment. The candidate should be able to do independent research leading to publications of papers in impacted journals and in conference proceedings.
Optionally, the candidate can mentor graduate students.
Specific requirements:
Candidates are required to demonstrate that they meet the required competencies by explaining in their CV the type/length of research experience for each requirement, the extent/range of knowledge of the subject matter. Candidates are required to provide their list of publications.
Eligibility criteria:
The maximum duration of the postdoctoral appointment is limited to 5 years after the award of the PhD degree. For this reason, in order to be eligible for a postdoctoral appointment, the sucessful candidate must be no longer than 3-4 years after the award of a PhD degree (or equivalent) (variations in the CV chronology due to parental leave or a non-academic career path etc. will be considered ad hoc by the selection committee).
